In this context, we are looking for a Network & Security Engineer to work with the INT-UQKD consortium from our Windhof office, in Luxembourg.

You will contribute to the implementation elements needed to simulate and monitor internal processes and to control underlying subsystems. To achieve this, you will need to interact with an international multidisciplinary team to understand each one of the elements that compose the system, to interface with them and simulate their processes.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Establishing or reviewing the security requirements relevant to the system development and operation.
  • Implementing the required security measures:
  • Decomposing the system level security requirements and associated Zero Trust strategy into low level security and controls throughout the INT-UQKD or Quantum Safe network infrastructure.
  • Performing systems integration activities such as Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC) and Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) to implement the security requirements and associated Zero Trust strategy.
  • Performing the planning, coordination, configuration, installation, and management of all data and network infrastructure and related security services within the network to meet security requirements.
  • Performing or assisting with penetration tests and vulnerability assessments, Communicate results and recommendations to the INT-UQKD project team.
  • Liaising with the external Security Operation Center (SoC) team to implement efficient network monitoring and threat detection means commensurate with the security objectives of the INT-UQKD project team.
  • Assessing and validating security architecture
  • Contributing to security assurance plan (necessary steps to be taken including testing procedure).
  • Performing security risk assessment activities as defined in the security assurance plan at component, subsystems and system levels (HW and/or SW).
  • Updating and consolidating security aspects relevant to certification.


Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science OR a compensating relevant experience of at least 3 years.
  • At least 3 years of professional hands-on IT experience focusing on network security and controls (SIEM, SOC, etc.) in accordance with Zero Trust principles and security by design notions.
  • Familiarity with common network security frameworks (NIST, ISO, etc.) and relevant regulations (NIS 2, DORA, etc.) and experience in assessing and documenting network security accordingly.
  • Proficiency in programming/scripting languages such as Python, Bash or other similar tools.
  • Being able to bridge teams with different backgrounds and technologies.
  • Attention to detail, excellent proofreading/editing skills, writing skills, and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Experience with operation and/or security assessment of quantum-safe deployments (QKD, QRNG, PQC, etc.) and Quantum Communication Infrastructures (QCI).
  • Experience in project execution following international standards, such as space (ECSS, CCSDS, IDSIS), military (MIL-STD, NATO) or regulatory (ETSI, ITU, 3GPP) standards.
  • Experience in creating Cybersecurity test plans, perform critical (possibly including space) system cybersecurity testing, and analyzing test results.
  • Familiar with monitoring protocols and OS tools, such as SNMP or Syslog.
  • Familiar with virtualization, container technology such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • A working knowledge of another language, for example, French or German.
  • Eligibility to a NATO and/or EU Security clearances.
